Tangier, a city in northern Morocco, is a fascinating destination for motorcycle enthusiasts. Located at the northwest tip of the country, it offers spectacular coastal landscapes, a rich history, and a unique atmosphere.
Departure
The journey begins in Marrakech, the red city. After checking the motorcycle and equipment, I take the road heading north. The road is wide and well-maintained, allowing for full enjoyment of the ride.
Crossing the Rif
The first leg of the journey is crossing the Rif, a mountainous region known for its lush landscapes and picturesque villages. The winding road and tight turns offer intense driving pleasure.
Tangier
Upon arriving in Tangier, I am immediately struck by the sensation of proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar. The Mediterranean Sea is omnipresent, and one can feel the sea breeze in their hair. I park on the corniche and admire the breathtaking view of the strait and the Spanish coasts.
City Tour
I then stroll through the city and discover its unique charms. The Medina, with its narrow alleys and bustling souks, is a fascinating labyrinth. I visit Cape Spartel, the northwesternmost point of Africa, and admire the lighthouse overlooking the ocean.
Feeling the Proximity of the Strait
Everywhere in Tangier, one feels the proximity of the Strait of Gibraltar. The sea wind, the waves crashing on the rocks, and the mix of European and African cultures contribute to this unique atmosphere.
On the Return Route
The return to Marrakech is via the same route. I take the opportunity to stop in the villages that I didn’t have time to visit on the way there.
