The Middle Atlas is not a single road but a group of mountain stages linking Fes with Ifrane, Azrou, cedar forests, Midelt and routes farther south. A focused trip can take two to four days; a longer itinerary can continue toward the Ziz Valley or Merzouga.
Altitude changes quickly between the plains and the mountain roads. Forest sections can be cold, wet or foggy, while winter may bring snow and temporary disruption. Summer is generally clearer but can still produce warm afternoons and strong temperature differences after sunset.
Choose a motorcycle for the route rather than only engine size. Himalayan 450 and CFMOTO 450MT are accessible for mixed road days, DR-Z400 favours lighter and more technical use, while Tenere 700, V-Strom 800DE and BMW GS suit experienced riders seeking more touring comfort.
